HOODIA REPORT
Since mid-2003 Hoodia mania
has spread all over the country. The new diet pill that is
scientifically guarantees weight loss to people no matter how out
of shape they may be. Hoodia Gordonii is a South African plant
that has been used for many years to fight hunger and fulfill an
appetite. Even with its studies and statistics many people still
question its effectiveness on people, and that includes the
Wisconsin State Journal. In September 2005 WSJ published a report
questioning Hoodia’s effectiveness and whether scientists believe
that it really is harmless.
The article starts off by
stating that “Experts believe that it might be harmful” and “that
you really can’t get it here.” If we can’t get it here then how
come there are so many companies selling Hoodia pills online. The
fact is that all these companies selling Hoodia products aren’t
getting the product from South Africa and that one might call a
“fake” diet pill. The real Hoodia plant pill has already been
patented and purchased by Pfizer Inc. They paid to have patent, to
get the plant grown, and to prepare for the shipment of the diet
pill. But why then did Pfizer sell it’s ingredients to different
companies?
The article states that Pfizer
didn’t really feel that Hoodia worked. UW-Madison’s pharmacy
professor Paul Huston believes he knows the answer. He states that
if Pfizer released information that had to do with obesity, then
they must have felt that the product didn’t have any merit.
Just because Pfizer may have
not had 100% confidents doesn’t mean that it didn’t work. Tests
have shown over and over again that it does work very effectively.
The backings still haven’t made Hoodia legal in the U.S. Shipping
it into the United States is also technically illegal as a dietary
supplement. It’s mainly because some companies don’t even put any
Hoodia in the supplement. Some scientists believe that it may very
happen that the true way of guaranteeing a diet that includes
Hoodia is to actually eat the plant itself instead of looking for
a legit pill.
